If masculinity is being repressed now, hasn't it always kind of been repressed?

Masculinity isn't being repressed, men are just angry that they're not legally allowed to beat their wives anymore...It's just a buzz-phrase that men who feel threatened by intelligent women use to talk about feminism. The fact is, this society is more ually open and even promotes aggressive or violent behavior even more than it was in the past.
